India and Ukraine triumph at the World Championships in pistol and rifle shooting
Today, the World Championships featured the 50-meter rifle shooting competition in three positions for women and the 25-meter standard pistol competition for men.
The world's best once again dominated the 25-meter standard: India and Ukraine fought an exciting duel and impressively demonstrated their strength. The Indian Abhinav Deshwal made a clear statement right from the start, led confidently throughout the entire competition and crowned his performance with a new world record. The silver medal went to the Ukrainian Oleksii Lazebnyk, while Chetan Hanmant Sapkal from India won bronze. Things went less well for the German shooters - they took the last two places. The dominant performance of the shooters from India and Ukraine shows that these nations are currently the measure of all things in the pistol competition.
In the 50-meter rifle competition with three positions, the participants fought for a place in the final in a high-class qualifying competition. The Germans Sara Schäfer and Miriam Kraska were also there. While Schäfer gave up early for health reasons, Kraska made it to the final. But in the qualifying competition, the Ukrainian Violeta Lykova and the Indian Mahit Sandhu set new standards with a joint world record. Close behind was the Hungarian Mira Zsuzsanna Biatovszki.
In the thrilling final, Mahit Sandhu once again proved her class and won the gold medal for India with a consistently top performance. She led the field from the start and gave her competitors no chance. Miriam Kraska had a difficult day in the final and was unable to catch up. The Hungarian Biatovszki eventually overtook Lykova and secured silver, while the Ukrainian won bronze.
India and Ukraine are thus consolidating their exceptional position in international shooting sports – an impressive performance at the highest level.
