Mixed competitions: Gold for India, Germany misses the podium
Today the focus was on the exciting mixed competitions in the air pistol and air rifle disciplines. Seven mixed teams started in the morning, including India and Ukraine with two teams each, Croatia, Taiwan and Germany, which was represented by Martin Böhlke and Silke Fischer.
In the qualification, India I and Ukraine I won comfortably and qualified for the final, where gold was at stake. Croatia and Ukraine II competed against each other in the battle for the bronze medal.
Unfortunately, the competition was disappointing for Germany. Our team missed the podium and took last place in the mixed competition. They were 26 rings short of making it to the bronze duel, and 34 rings would have been necessary for the gold final. Things just didn't go well for the German duo that day.
In the thrilling bronze battle, Croatia narrowly beat Ukraine II 17:13 and were delighted to win the medal. Ukraine II caught up again after a long Croatian lead, but Croatia held its nerve on the last shot and secured bronze. In the final, Ukraine then showed an outstanding performance and won clearly with 17:7 and confidently took the gold medal.
In the air rifle competition, German hopes rested on two teams: Erik Hess and Sara Schäfer and Sabrina Eckert and Daniel Colin Müller. Expectations were high that Germany would finally win a medal.
In the qualification, India and Ukraine once again proved their strength and each made it to the final with two teams. The German team Hess/Schäfer narrowly missed out on a place in the bronze duel - they were only 1.7 rings short. India made a statement and set a new world record with 628.8 rings.
In the duel for bronze, Ukraine I triumphed clearly with 16:6 against Ukraine II. In the final, India seamlessly continued its outstanding performance and clearly defeated India II with 17:5.
